Amandeep Kalra, MD

Overview

Dr. Kalra joined Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg in October, 2020. He completed his Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin. Prior to this, he completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Dr. Kalra is a board-certified Gastroenterologist. He is proficient in the diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including upper endoscopy, esophageal dilation, screening and surveillance colonoscopy, removing complex colon polyps and banding esophageal varices.

Dr. Kalra has a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease. During his fellowship at the University of Wisconsin, he worked in the inflammatory bowel disease clinic for 2 years. During that time, he was involved in caring for patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Being trained in one of the liver transplant centers, Dr. Kalra also has an interest in end stage liver disease, fatty liver disease, autoimmune hepatitis and chronic hepatitis B and C. Apart from inflammatory bowel disease and liver disease, Dr. Kalra also has an interest in treating patients with irritable bowel syndrome and eosinophilic esophagitis.

Dr. Kalra believes in evidence-based medicine and has done research in various fields of medicine. His recent research involves role of capsule endoscopy in obscure gastroenterology bleeding.

Dr. Kalra’s goal is to have the best treatment plan for his patients and to achieve the highest possible patient satisfaction.
Outside work, he likes skiing, biking and hiking.

Dr. Kalra is credentialed with most insurance plans and currently has medical staff privileges at Mary Washington Hospital and Stafford Hospital. He performs procedures at both hospitals as well as our brand-new, Fredericksburg Endoscopy Center, recently opened in Central Park.
